Evolution of mafic lavas in Central Anatolia: Mantle source domains

Abstract We present new Sr-Nd-Pb-Hf isotopic data on mafic lavas from the Sivas, Develida?, Erciyes, and Erkilet volcanic complexes in central Turkey Tendürek eastern to evaluate mantle sources for volcanism context of geodynamic evolution Anatolian microplate. Early Miocene through Quaternary Western Anatolia latest activity Central were dominated by contributions two distinct source regions: heterogeneous metasomatized or subduction-modified lithosphere, roughly homogeneous sublithospheric ambient upper mantle; we model mixing between three end members. The plots close Northern Hemisphere reference line (NHRL) with radiogenic 206Pb/204Pb ?19.15, while other plot substantially above NHRL Pb isotope space. lithospheric is heterogeneous, resulting variable pollution subduction-related processes likely including direct incorporation sediment and/or mélange; its range isotopes defined regional oceanic ultrapotassic melts subcontinental mantle. geochemical impact this contribution disproportionately large, given that lithosphere ocean dominates signatures lavas. Subduction Aegean Tethyan seafloor, associated marked crustal shortening, took place throughout region until ca. 16–17 Ma, after which time broad delamination thickened lower crust slab beneath allowed mélange slab-derived fluids be released into overlying evolving modified Aggregation derived both domains was made possible upwelling warm asthenospheric material moving around complexly torn younger Aegean-Cyprean dips steeply north southern Anatolia.
